DESPITE the 25 percent pension cut on the horizon for Northern Marianas retirees, five of the 2,395 retirees whose combined annual pensions of $546,549.62 will probably have enough left compared to those getting only $6,000 a year.

Based on the latest Fund records, five retirees are receiving $101,031.34, $107,275.53, $110.114.45, $110,359.50 and $117,767.80. Their identities were not released by the Fund.

Even if their benefits are reduced by 25 percent — as proposed in the settlement of the Betty Johnson case — they would still be getting $75,773.51, $80,456.65, $82,585.84, $82,769.63 and $88,325.85.

A motion to approve the settlement agreement is to be filed in court by July 24, but no specific details are yet available to the public as to how the proposed cut in pensions will be implemented.
